About Us
Helping end vaccine inequality, whilst promoting clean sanitation & clean cooking fuels
The Biomass
Founded in 2024, The Biomass Clinic project aims to tackle vaccine inequality with its remote biogas powered clinic facilities.
People
The main people who benefit from this project are the end users. A certain amount of investment in local champions and community members who can maintain the units will be required, and each deployment will also need to go hand in hand with the work of existing medical practitioners working in these areas.
Planet
The project has a positive impact on the environment, by harnessing human waste, and converting it into gas that can be used to power appliances, and fertilizer than can be used to grow crops. It is a self-sustainable solution that can be deployed into remote communities.
One of the large environmental impacts of the project will be the carbon cost of manufacture and delivery of each clinic to its location. There will be a certain offset from the clean energy generated by each unit, but to be maximize environmental sustainability the carbon impact at each stage from production to deployment will be analyzed to aim for net zero targets. It is also important that the waste is properly managed at the deployment site to prevent the risks of contamination and illness. Operator education and routine maintenance will be key here to prevent any environmental damage.
SDG Alignment
Primarily this project targets Social Development Goal Three, Global Health, it achieves this by directly targeting vaccine inequality in rural and remote communities that do not have access to suitable power for refrigeration. As a stretch goal the excess gas produced can be used as a communal clean fuel for cooking, which will also improve the health and quality of life in poorer communities. Furthermore, if runoff from the deployment is properly managed, these communities are given a rich fertilizer which can aid in the growing of crops.
